Farmhouse Blues Quilt Challenge – Sew Along with Us!
There’s something so special about sewing a quilt step by step, week by week. Instead of rushing through, you find a rhythm that fits your life—and by the end, you’ve created not just a quilt, but a story stitched with joy, patience, and community. 💕
This September, I’m inviting you to join me for the Farmhouse Blues Quilt Challenge. Together, we’ll piece this beautiful quilt in four simple stages, with plenty of encouragement and support along the way.
✨ About the Challenge
The Quilting your Legacy Monthly Challenge is free to join and happens inside our Facebook group. Each month, we tackle a new project together. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s connection.
By breaking the quilt into bite-sized steps, you’ll always know what comes next, and you’ll feel the momentum build as your quilt grows. Plus, you’ll have a whole community sewing alongside you (yes, pajamas totally count as quilting attire 🧵☕).

🪡 September’s Project: Farmhouse Blues
The quilt we’re sewing this month is called Farmhouse Blues—a simple, scrappy design that’s beginner-friendly yet satisfying for seasoned quilters too.
The finished size is 60” x 75” or 72” x 87” if you add the optional border.
Fabric Requirements:
-
14 medium/dark fat quarters
-
1¾ yards background fabric
-
⅝ yard binding (or ¾ yard with border)
-
Optional: 1½ yards border fabric (cut into 6½” strips)
✨ Want to skip the guesswork? Grab the $2 Farmhouse Blues pattern or make your life even easier with the $7 Sewing Guide. The Sewing Guide includes the pattern plus step-by-step checkmark directions for cutting and sewing so you’ll never feel stuck.

🧵 How the Quilt Comes Together
Here’s what we’ll be sewing week by week:
-
Four Patch Blocks – Sew 20 simple blocks from 6½” squares.
-
Adding Background Strips – Frame each four-patch to make your blocks shine.
-
Layout & Rows – Arrange blocks, sew rows, and add the optional border.
-
Finishing Touches – Quilting, binding, and celebrating your finished quilt top.
It’s amazing how quickly these steps build into a finished quilt!
🌿 Want My Exact Fabrics?
I’ll be sewing my Farmhouse Blues with the Farmhouse Winter Animals Quilt Kit from New England Fabrics.
If you’d like the same kit, just give them a call and tell them Emily sent you. 💕
Pro tip: Don’t worry too much about fabric direction—I’ve wasted too many hours ripping seams for tiny snowflakes or bears that looked “sideways.” Once your quilt is finished, those details disappear in the beauty of the whole.

Let’s Quilt Together
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced quilter, I’d love for you to join me. By Christmas, you could have four finished quilts—ready to gift to loved ones, donate to a charity, or pass along to someone in need.
